The durability of the crates is extremely dependent on the materials used, so care must be taken in the selection of the Crate Mould(FURNITUREMOULD) materials. In general, the crate mould materials should have the following properties:

(1) High wear resistance

In order to increase the rigidity and mechanical properties of plastic parts, glass fibre and inorganic filler are widely used in plastic formulations. After adding these additives, they enter the mould cavity together with the melt, and the friction inside the mould cavity is extremely high. If the crate mould material is not wear-resistant, it is easy to cause excessive wear of the cavity. Therefore, the material for making such a mould should have better wear resistance.

(2) High corrosion resistance

Many plastic additives, such as flame retardants, and even the chemical action of the melt itself can corrode the mould cavity. When the filler and reinforcing material containing abrasives are mixed in the plastic raw material, it is more likely to aggravate the damage of the crate mould. For this, it is best to use corrosion-resistant steel or surface plating of the crate mould, chrome plating or nickel plating.

(3) Good thermal conductivity

Good mould temperature control has a great influence on the quality of plastic parts during injection moulding, especially when processing semi-crystalline thermoplastics. Generally, copper alloys have much better thermal conductivity than alloy steels, but their modulus of elasticity, hardness and durability are lower. Insufficient thermal conductivity of the steel can be compensated for by the cooling system.

(4) Good dimensional stability

When the injection mould is in the moulding operation, the temperature of the mould cavity should reach 300 ° C or above, which may cause microscopic changes in the cavity structure, thereby causing the size of the crate mould to change, and the size of the plastic parts is unstable. For this purpose, a steel material which is suitably tempered, that is, heat-treated steel may be used. In order to improve the hardness and wear resistance, the crate mould is generally subjected to heat treatment. However, this heat treatment should have a small influence on the size of the crate mould, and pre-hardened steel capable of cutting can be used, which does not require heat treatment after machining.

(5) Good polishing performance

The inner wall of the cavity of the crate mould is very high, and the roughness is very small, so as to meet the requirements of the good gloss of the surface of the plastic part. For this, the mould cavity is generally polished, and the surface is brighter and better. For this reason, it is required that the crate mould material is easy to be polished, and the selected material should not be trapped with defects such as impurities and pores.
